7 Healthy Snacks That Help You Lose Weight

If you’re trying to lose weight, there are two things you should always remember: First, your diet is key to getting the results you want, and second, snacks are just as important as meals. The truth of the matter is that if you don’t keep your body fed properly throughout the day, you’ll start to feel lethargic and weak and your cravings will take over, causing you to give in to temptation and eat things that won’t help you meet your weight loss goals.

1) Apples

Apples are great snacks that can help you lose weight. They’re full of fiber, which will make you feel fuller without packing on too many calories. Try slicing one into a salad, or try eating it with peanut butter for a quick low-calorie bite to eat.

2) Nuts and Seeds

According to Harvard Medical School, nuts are a rich source of protein, fiber, minerals, and healthful fats that can help keep hunger at bay. Walnuts in particular contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which may help lower cholesterol levels. In one study published in Nutrition Research, overweight adults who ate almonds lost more weight than those who followed a control diet.

3) Avocado

The oils in the avocado act as a natural lubricant and a humectant, which means they’ll leave your skin feeling soft and supple. Avocado oil is also high in antioxidants, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids all of which are good for glowing skin. Additionally, avocado contains a compound called acetyl hexapeptide-8 (Argireline), which has been shown to significantly decrease wrinkles when applied topically to facial muscles.

4) Dark Chocolate

While dark chocolate isn’t exactly a snack, a single square can provide an impressive 4 grams of belly-filling fiber and antioxidants. Dark chocolate also boasts plenty of mood-boosting tryptophan and a study published in Neurology revealed that people who ate just two and a half ounces per day improved their memory, processing speed, and cognitive performance over 12 weeks.

5) Hard Boiled Eggs

Eggs are full of protein and healthy fats try hard-boiled eggs with vegetables for a filling snack that can curb your hunger. They’re also relatively inexpensive, so you don’t have to worry about going broke as you shed pounds. It’s easy to make hard-boiled eggs, too: Simply bring a pot of water to boil and crack in a few eggs.

6) Coconut Water

This natural beverage is one of my favorites. It’s a great way to stay hydrated, especially if you’re exercising or playing sports. Coconut water has potassium and small amounts of sodium and chloride, along with small amounts of magnesium and calcium all minerals our bodies need to function optimally. The best part? It tastes great!

7) Yogurt

A low-calorie, low-fat snack, yogurt is a great choice if you’re trying to lose weight. It provides protein and probiotics important for your immune system and its creamy texture can keep you feeling full throughout the day. Choose plain nonfat or low-fat varieties with active cultures. Eating yogurt regularly can also help lower your risk of osteoporosis and improve gut health. Mix in some fresh fruit, honey, or cinnamon for extra flavor!
