By Matt Miller, PhD, Managing Director of the UnitedHealthcare Accelerator Powered by Techstars
The year 2020 has upended many things previously seen as unshakeable. In the midst of hardship, world events have catalyzed change across the health care ecosystem in dramatic fashion. These shifts have created incredible opportunities for entrepreneurs to reimagine the future of health. It is within this context that I’m excited to announce the 10 startups joining our second class of the UnitedHealthcare Accelerator Powered by Techstars. Over the next three months these companies will rapidly accelerate their businesses by working closely with UnitedHealthcare, Techstars, and a network of expert health care mentors. More on the specific companies from this year’s 2020 class below.
Last year’s class set an incredibly high bar. Here are some highlights from our alumni:
“Mountain raises $1.5M in Seed Funding” - PR Newswire
“Inside Suggestic: A new AI-based app changing the way we eat and travel” - Forbes
“Meet Lena, the AI chatbot fighting social isolation in seniors” – Startup Health
“Clearstep’s $1.3M pre-seed raise comes as digital care navigation gains traction nationwide” – American Entrepreneurship
“WalkWise walker attachment helps seniors stay safe and mobile” - Medgadget
Even more great news from the 2019 class will be coming out over the next few months and years to come. And I’m confident our 2020 startups will be equally impressive.
From the beginning, we set out to find world-class entrepreneurs solving substantive problems across the health care landscape. We looked for early technology companies enhancing the quality of care, increasing access to care, addressing the cost of care, and improving the experience for all our stakeholders to make health care work better for everyone. We also searched for innovations capable of solving the challenges brought by COVID-19. Similar to last year, applicants were quite impressive, and selected companies represent a diverse spectrum of ideas, geographies, capabilities and technologies. The 2020 class is tackling issues in areas such as: health equity, care delivery model innovation, telemedicine, remote patient monitoring, mental health, behavioral economics, and more.
Without further ado, I am thrilled to present the 10 companies joining the 2020 UnitedHealthcare Accelerator Powered by Techstars.
